We Are Alone in the Universe and That is OK…

Oh no, this image has weird proportions so it must be an alien…

I have recently been listening to a lot of lectures and documentaries focused on the subject of ancient advanced civilizations that present the idea of humanity being much older and more advanced then what is accepted by current scholarly consensus. This is extremely interesting, and something I will probably write more about in the future, but I also noticed a somewhat interesting trend among the ancient civilization crowd.

There seems to be a strong belief in extraterrestial life visiting or influencing early man. What is odd is that this belief in “aliens” is supported by the a minute amount of proof or scientific observation. Most dismiss, and even ridicule, the biblical (or other religious texts) account of early civilizations as a copy or exaggeration of local events, and then will get defensive over the idea of being alone in the universe.

Basically, it seems one will take a random cave drawing or obscure reference and extrapolate the meaning to have a cosmic purpose, but then discredit the detailed historical accounts, that have survived thousands of years, as a work of fiction.

What is even more odd is that the, “there must be life out there somewhere” crowd often attaches much emotion and fervor to their beliefs. This faith resembles the most dogmatic and faith based arguments of any religious movement.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is absolutely no evidence of life on another planet. As of right now, it is even safe to say that alien life is mathematically impossible.

To take it one step further, if the individuals that are convinced of extraterrestial life were to even attempt at being intellectually honest and consistent, they would then also be firm theists as well. Considering the evidence, impact, and influence that theism has had on the world, it far outweighs the support that alien life can muster in its defense. Therefore, a belief in the supernatural should be just as prominent.

We are alone in the universe and that is ok. No alien is going to come end COVID 19, nuclear war, or global warming. No advanced race is judging us on how well we are being a global or universal citizen. There is no race of extraterrestrial beings, outside of angels, that is guiding us into a deeper more scientific understanding of life. There is no academic solution to the problem of your guilt and shame even though you look for your salvation in the stars. We are alone with our creator, and that is ok.
